Directions
Heat the frankfurters in a pan of water. The water should be just below boiling point or the frankfurters will burst.
Dice the raw onion. Serve the raw and fried onions in small bowls.
Heat the frankfurter buns under the grill.
Cut the frankfurter buns down the middle, length-wise, to the centre. Place a frankfurter in the bun and add ketchup, mustard, tartare sauce, raw onion, fried onions and gherkins to taste.
Tip
The frankfurters can also be fried instead of cooked in water.
